Over-the-counter diet pills are less regulated than FDA approved
prescription weight loss drugs. These over-the-counter diet pills
and herbal supplements - sometimes called 'Fat-Burners' - often
contain amphetamine-like active ingredients.
Such ingredients act as stimulants which theoretically increase
the metabolism and help the body break down fat. Nevertheless,
despite claims by pill-manufacturers, the use of OTC products
alone does not cause weight loss.
However, some active ingredients in these over-the-counter diet
and weight loss pills have been linked to serious side effects
such as heart attacks, seizures and death.
